Nutrition Counseling

The Nutrition Counseling Service is led by a senior dietitian who has undergone specialist training and provides nutritional assessment and advice.

Dietitians provide practical guidance to help people make long-lasting changes to the way they eat.

The advice can be given on a wide variety of diets, for example excluding certain foods if a food intolerance or food allergy is suspected.

What are the aims of Nutrition Counseling?

  • That your diet is nutritionally balanced providing the nutrients needed
  • That we give advice based on up-to-date scientific research on food, health and disease
  • That we provide practical advice to enable you to make the right diet choices for your needs

Who may benefit from the Nutrition and Dietetic Service?

Patients with the following conditions may be seen in the clinic:

  • Food allergy and intolerances
  • Gastrointestinal problems including irritable bowel syndrome
  • Women’s health issues including polycystic ovarian syndrome,
    premenstrual syndrome and menopause
  • Rheumatological and other musculoskeletal problems
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Fibromyalgia
  • There is also a multidisciplinary weight loss program for patients with obesity.

What should I expect on my visit to the clinic?

The first appointment takes about 30 minutes. Our dietitian may ask you to keep a food diary to help provide the best advice on your nutrition.

Advice on nutritional supplements will be given if necessary, however, wherever possible advice will focus on obtaining nutrients from food.
